Formartine Partnership have provided a grant of £600 to the Ellon Community Council to support the future of the Ellon Garden Competition which the council has been organising for over 20 years.
Project leader and community council member, Aileen Taylor, said that they wanted to expand the competition.
She said: “We want to develop the competition to ensure that more entries are received from a cross section of the Community.
“We will be increasing the number of categories and investing in new trophies to ensure that all winners and runners up are rewarded.”
Most of the current trophies that have been donated over the years by generous individuals now require replacing.
The community council are hoping for a good turnout by supplying the deserving winners and runner ups with a returnable trophy and a framed certificate in recognition of their efforts.
A reception is also planned to take place in September where all the prizes will be given.
Planning for next year’s contest is set to start in January 2014 and with more householders and tenants taking part each year, the standards and expectations are getting higher and higher.
The community council welcome the support of the Formartine Partnership to help develop their important environmental initiative.
