MSP for Aberdeenshire East, Gillian Martin, helped the Ellon Parkrun celebrate its 12th anniversary.
Ms Martin started the Ellon Parkrun last Saturday on International Parkrun Day at the new Ellon Academy campus and also took part along with her daughter Eve (13).
A total of 82 runners took part including a contingent from Chorlton Running Club in Manchester.
The Ellon parkrun is one of almost 1,000 weekly events in 14 countries.
Ms Martin said: “I was delighted to be invited to start the Ellon Parkrun on the day the Parkrun celebrates its anniversary. I also decided to run it with my 13 year old daughter, who comfortably beat me.
“Training with Eve has been great, and going along on the day to see so many people of all different ages was fantastic. There’s a real camaraderie, and everyone is so supportive.
“It’s a great way to get into running - and the route is pretty special too taking us from the new academy along the Ythan and round Gordon Park, I will definitely be trying to fit it into my Saturdays between constituency business in future.
“The organisers – especially Event Director, Steven Garden – should be congratulated on the continued success of the initiative.”
