Ellon is to get another community defibrillator.
Funding is now in place to fit the life-saving equipment to the exterior of the town’s library.
Ellon Community Council, local company ABRRAS and Aberdeenshire Council have been involved in the project.
It is hoped to have the defibrillator in place early in the New Year.
ABRRAS commercial director Cheryl Jones told the Times this week: “We have raised enough money now and will be purchasing and situating the defibrillator on the library wall.
“The purpose of this project is to ensure a machine is always available and with full support from Aberdeenshire Council.”
She recently attended a community council meeting to demonstrate the machine and how it works.
It comes after a community defribrillator was recently installed in the town’s Buchan Hotel.
Some of the proceeds from the fire station open day last year funded the kit.
Buchan Hotel owner Ron Beedie, who is also Ellon fire station watch manager, said they hoped to expand the defibrillator provision to surrounding communities.
He said: “We held training sessions for the defibrillator in Ellon which were well attended and we hope to get to Balmedie in the New Year.”
Ellon firefighters have started visiting neighbouring communities in a festive-decorated appliance as their traditional Christmas charity collection gets under way.
