Aberdeenshire Council has announced refuse and recycling arrangements over the festive season.
Christmas and New Year’s Day are both on a Wednesday, meaning these collections, usually done on Wednesday, will be made the following Saturday.
Collections due on Christmas Day will now be Saturday, December 28, and collections due on New Year’s Day will now be Saturday, January 4.
People are being advised that collections may be earlier than usual, so refuse and recycling should be put out by 7am to ensure it is collected.
All other collections over the festive period will take place on the usual days.
If a refuse collection is missed due to severe weather, extra bags can be put alongside bins on the next collection day. This is the only time extra waste can be accepted.
All Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2.
They will open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 9am-4pm, closing an hour earlier than usual in some cases.
Alford and Insch Recycling Centres will open on Friday, December 27, and Friday, January 3. Otherwise all will be open as usual.
Over the busy period containers at recycling points may be fuller than normal, particularly at busy supermarkets.
The council is assuring residents it is working hard to service all recycling points as often as possible.
It has given some hints and tips for keeping recycling points clear and ensuring council vehicles can access them.
These include: do not park in a position that prevents council vehicles reaching containers to empty them; spread recycling out over the festive period if possible; take recycling to an alternative recycling point (busy sites may have signs pointing you to alternatives); don’t leave materials lying outside recycling containers; if you can’t use another recycling point that day, do take it home and try again later.
