Fly Cup Catering is looking to recruit on weekdays and Saturdays.

The organisation enables adults with learning disabilities to access training and employment opportunities within the catering sector.

It wants to hear from people who have spare time to support its trainees serving in the coffee shop, or in the kitchen as they learn new skills.

The appeal comes as Fly Cup draws up plans to form a Friends of Fly Cup to boost its network of volunteers.

An evening event is being organised for the coming weeks to establish the new support group.

Fly Cup Catering’s chief executive officer Denise Belshaw said: “Fly Cup Catering continues to grow, and we are so grateful that the community supports our work.

“In order not to disappoint our customers, we are looking for volunteers during weekdays and on Saturdays.

“Our volunteers are greatly appreciated and make a difference to our charity and our wonderful trainees who we support.”

Fly Cup provides trainees with work experience through its own cafe, bakery and outside catering services at Burghmuir Circle.

The charity also works closely with other catering establishments to develop temporary or permanent work placements.

Each trainee is provided with a personalised training programme which leads to a Fly Cup Catering Certificate.

Many trainees are able to work towards completing food and hospitality NVQ units.

Demand for Fly Cup’s services is at an all-time high.

The charity is now looking to expand its training opportunities. It is in the middle of a major fundraising drive this year to secure European match funding.

The plan is to create a learning centre which will act as an independent living school, where trainees can be taught housekeeping and administration skills.

It also hopes to become a Scottish Qualifications Authority centre in the next 12 months.
