Forum for the Arts seeks volunteers

The 2013 Gordon Art Exhibition
The 2013 Gordon Art Exhibition

THE Gordon Forum for the Arts has been supporting the arts in central Aberdeenshire for over twenty years.

It was responsible for the distribution of small arts development grants provided by the Council, however, when these were swept away in austerity measures, the Forum regrouped and for the past two years has organised a Value of Age Festival in the Garioch area in addition to its regular highly successful and well supported annual Gordon Arts Exhibition.

As part of an action plan Gordon Forum for the Arts has determined to work towards enabling older people to participate in arts activities and to attend arts events; the Value of Age Festival is the main expression of this aim.

Ten separate events took place in 2013 over a four week period in October reaching an estimated older people’s audience of sixteen hundred. Almost all the events were free. The flagship matinee concert on September 30, in the Inverurie Town Hall was supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Age Scotland and attracted an audience of one hundred and sixty people mostly from care homes. Those attending came from all points of the compass including Fraserburgh and Torphins. The annual Art Exhibition is a five-day event again in the Inverurie Town Hall. It welcomes entries, from amateur and professional artists, has a children’s section, and is a popular place to find and purchase original art at a reasonable price.

The Forum is holding it’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, January 15, at 7pm at Inverurie Town Hall during which there will be refreshments and an illustrated talk by Bob Humphries of the Donside Camera Club, who will talk about the club and also his own interest in photography.

The Forum is seeking interested people to join the organisation, anyone wishing to help will be welcome at the meeting or can contact via the website
