Go-ahead for visitor centre

PERMISSION to build a brand new Visitor Centre, including retail space and a cafe, at the Pitcaple Environmental Project at Pitcaple, was unanimously approved by councillors at Tuesday’s meeting of the Garioch Area Committee.

The proposed new building will feature a coffee shop/restaurant, seminar facilities, a retail shop, and a renewable energy centre.

The existing car-park would be extended. It will be of a contemporary design featuring a turf pitched roof and constructed from larch timber and stone clad walls, timber windows and include two solar panels on the roof. It will be situated well away from the neighbouring quarry.

There will be 18 new parking car parking spaces and two bus parking spaces

The building will be in addition to the Interpretation Centre that was previously approved in March this year.

A full Feasability Study and Business Plan was submitted in support of the application.

The Pitcaple Environmental Project is a long term caritable project and it is hoped that the new building will provide voluntary and paid work for adults with learning disabilities and special needs as well as additional training opportunities in catering and retail.

The application went before the committee as it is a development on council owned land.
