The ninth Inverurie10k Twilight Walk in aid of Cancer Research UK is all set for Friday, May 4.
Once again sponsors J.G. Ross are rallying behind the event and encouraging others to get involved for a fun, friendly night with a great atmosphere raising money for a cause close to many hearts.
Event organiser Angie Shearer told the Herald: “My family started the walk eight years ago in 2010 to mark the 10 year anniversary of losing my Granny Thompson to cancer. Sadly, we have lost more family members since then and this year will be five years since my mum’s twin, my auntie Sandra Morrison, who was also local to Inverurie, passed away with cancer.”
The 33-year-old added: “So, we continue to fundraise for Cancer Research UK to find cures for cancer and ensure more and more people survive. As a family, we would like to mark the five years, by encouraging 500 people to sign up and for each individual to aim to raise £50 each.
“This will then result in a total of £25,000. If everyone that has signed up so far encouraged five of their family or friends to come along, we would easily achieve our target!”
Anyone can take part in the walk, with organisers encouraging youngsters from the age of 13 years upwards to participate. The 10k route goes round Inverurie, starting and finishing at the Garioch Sports Centre which has fully supported the walk since the very first year.
The Fennel will be encouraging participants just over the halfway point on the route, by generously donating tipples of prosecco - their yearly contribution which is much appreciated by the organisers. CP&Co have also been thanked for rebranding of the Twilight Walk posters and leaflets and the printing of the materials.
On returning from the walk there will be Twilight Walk-designed cupcakes and refreshments which have been kindly donated by J.G Ross Bakers Ltd.
Angie added: “It is a great event for families to come together - get a group of friends, or work colleagues, sports clubs and teams and help support a great cause as well as having a fun, enjoyable evening with some treats throughout the night – cupcakes and prosecco – you can’t refuse that!”
Participants can register by going to www.entryhub.co.uk, find the walk on Facebook and follow the links or visit www.twilight-walk.com
Later in the year on Saturday. October 27, walk organisers will be hosting a Twilight Dance at Thainstone Exchange. Tables are available to book for this fundraising evening which comprises a drink reception, 3-course meal, live entertainment from the band ‘The Franchise’ and an auction/raffle to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Friends of Anchor.
It promises to be a great night, with tables of 8-12 available. If anyone would be interested in sponsoring this event, taking a table or would like to donate a raffle or auction prize – anything would be greatly appreciated.
