This will be the second year in a row that the local business has supported the charity event where the community will come together to walk 10k in memory of or celebration of loved ones affected by cancer.

Last year there were 670 walkers and they raised the amazing total of over £56,500. This year there are already 600 walkers signed up, and already on-line donations and sponsorship has raised over £6000 towards Cancer Research, with organisers hoping to set a new record.

With that in mind JG Ross say that they want to take it one step further, and they have launched special Twilight Walk Cupcakes that will be sold in all their stores and Scotmid stores locally with the profits going to Cancer Research.

At last year’s event JG Ross provided the event with 700 cupcakes for all the walkers to have on their return to celebrate their achievement, and this year they will do the same but will also be able to give Angie Shearer and the rest of the Twilight Walk team a cheque from the sale of the cakes.

The cupcake will retail at an individual price of 85p with 20p from every cake going to Cancer Research UK. They have been on sale in the shops from Monday (April 28) and will be for two weeks.

Graeme Ross said, “We had absolutely no hesitation in confirming our support for such a worthy cause again this year. It epitomizes the support and resilience of North East folk.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s Twighlight Walk Angie Shearer, one of the organisers said, “Last year’s walk surpassed all our expectations, we were aiming for 500 participants and to reach almost 700 was incredible, so too was the amount raised - £56,500! We really hope the community will support us for another year to raise the money needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured!”

Should you wish to sign up for the walk, visit the website or a local JG Ross Shop for application forms whilst stocks last. The walk is open to men and women aged 13 and over and will take place on Friday May 9, starting at the Garioch Sports Centre.
