INVERURIE Academy hosted Meldrum Academy 15s in the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Council Cup. Inverurie won 4-2 in a highly competitive match and face the prospect of two finals in 4 days . Inverurie’s Callum Mellis opened the scoring with a well taken shot on eight minutes and Meldrum equalised on 20 minutes through Josh Kinnaird.
Luke Munro restored the lead stabbing home when keeper Jack Bell could only parry a fierce drive into his path. With one goal separating the teams at half time it could have gone either way but Cameron Garden grabbed a third for the home side and then numerous chances were wasted at both ends before Greg Miazek scored Meldrum’s second with a powerful low shot from 18 yards.
In the final minute Alex Duguid added a fourth goal for Inverurie, with more than a suspicion of offside, to close the game.
On Friday, May 13, at 5pm, Inverurie travel to the final at Haughs in Turriff having defeated Meldrum and on Monday they make the long trip to Dingwall to face the Nicholson Institute team from Stornoway in the Final of the North of Scotland Cup. Having already secured the league title, the Inverurie side have the chance of the treble this season.
