1st Daviot Oldmeldrum Scout Group with their model of the Inverurie to Meldrum Railway

Almost 48 years after he was in charge of the last train on the branch line, Driver Nicky Littlejohn drove the first train of the night on the new railway. Mr Littlejohn and other members of the Garioch Heritage Society, Harold Petrie and Margaret and Alan Harrow were on hand to explain how the railway worked, what industries it served, as well as some great stories about the line and the characters that worked on it.

The Cubs produced a working model over 40 feet long, covering Inverurie, Lethenty Mill and Oldmeldrum, as well as using artistic licence to divert the line via Daviot so that the Scout Camp Site and Stone Circle could be included. The project was part of Local Knowledge and Creative Challenge badges.
