Local firms raise cash for Olympic skier
Inverurie businesses came together recently to support Cross-Country Skier Callum Smith's Olympic dream.
While the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics were taking place in Sochi, a loyalty card scheme helped to raise awareness of Callum during the games.
Callum has been training since he was 12-years-old and began racing internationally at the age of 15 when he qualified for the British National team.
Over a decade on after joining the British Nordic Ski Team in Norway for training and on a shoestring budget, all the hard work paid off and Callum qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Prior to the games Callum came up with the idea of introducing a loyalty card scheme that Inverurie businesses could take part in to raise awareness and much needed funding for his Olympic journey.
Many were happy to get involved and came up with their own ways of incorporating the loyalty cards into their business.
Those who took part were; The Kilted Frog, Floral Design, Elan, Craigdon, Casepoint, Live Love Craft, The Greengrocer, Chelsea House Clinic, Up West, Fennel, Booths, Cocoa Works, Beggs Shoes, The Whisky Shop and the Old Post Office at Chapel of Garioch.
The Kilted Frog raised a fantastic £151.20 of donations selling rock cakes for Callum and drummed up support and community spirit for him while he was in Pyeongchang.
In addition to this, customers entered a prize draw to win Olympic memorabilia by collecting stamps on their loyalty cards.
