The Garioch Community Kitchen in Inverurie received a visit from Gordon MP Colin Clark recently.
The group was set up by the Inverurie Health Improvement Group who developed and commissioned a purpose-built community kitchen facility in the town’s Wyness Hall.
The Garioch Community Kitchen recently received substantial funding from the Big Lottery Young Start fund.
Commenting on the group’s funding boost, Mr Clark said: “Organisations like the Garioch Community Kitchen are essential.
“Volunteers are well supported by representatives from NHS Grampian and Aberdeenshire Council.
“The committee members have a wealth of experience in the catering and hospitality industry as well as nutrition and teaching qualifications.
“They offer a variety of courses, including practical cooking, nutrition and tood hygiene courses and training for trainers courses for members of the community and support workers.”
Colin added: “The project aims to encourage practical cookery skills within local communities, raise awareness of healthy eating messages and deliver training through its brand name ‘Confidence to Cook’.
“The training kitchen welcomes all ages and groups of people from all over Aberdeenshire, so you may be ‘can’t cook or won’t cook’ but the Kitchen is well placed to help any and all.”
