A newly-formed exercise group in Pitmedden is growing in popularity.
Fit for Friday is a chair-based activity class which is held each week in the local hall.
The class started in February and is designed to meet the needs of local people, especially anyone who would find it difficult to travel further afield to attend such a group activity.
The session gets under way at 10.30am in Pitmedden Hall but people can arrive any time after 10am for a cup of tea and a chat. Chair-based exercise was identified as a top priority for older residents in Udny at a special event organised last year by Udny Community Trust Co. (UCTC).
Working with experienced instructor Velvet Mathers and with RVS staff and volunteers, UCTC are aiming to get Fit for Friday well established in the community over the course of this year.
UCTC chair Brian McDougall said: “UCTC is committed to helping the community of Udny to develop, and making sure that people can access services closer to home is an important part of that.”
The organisation’s development officer Eleanor Morris added: “Fit for Friday has started as a result of people telling us their ideas, we hope people in Udny will keep telling us what they would like to see, so that we can try and make things happen.”
Anyone who would like to know more about Fit for Friday or the work of Udny Community Trust Co. can contact the team on 01651 843776 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you want to come to the class and take part, but need transport to get to Pitmedden Hall, RVS may be able to help by arranging a lift with a local volunteer driver.
To find out more about transport, you can contact RVS on 01467 626012. RVS have a range of services and volunteering opportunities in the local area.
