A record number of North-east schoolchildren have signed up for Run Garioch 2015 - Inverurie’s biggest annual sporting event which takes place this Sunday.
More than 630 youngsters aged from 4-12 will take part in the event’s three junior runs, up by nearly 200 entries on last year.

Pupils will compete in 600 metre, 1,000 metre and 2,000 metre distances for prizes and trophies from 9.30am.
Seventy-seven schools across Scotland and the North-east will be participating in the event
Inverurie’s Strathburn Primary School has one of the highest numbers of pupils represented, with 64 children involved in all three junior events.
Strathburn deputy headteacher Ruth Wight said: “This fantastic event is a great opportunity to get the whole community involved in doing something active and we are thrilled to have so many pupils racing this year.
“We’ve been training regularly as part of our physical education classes and we’re looking forward to hearing the starting gun fire on Sunday.”
Run Garioch 2015 is expected to be the biggest yet, with more than 2000 adults covering 5k, 10k and half marathon distances. Housebuilders Dandara are again title sponsor of the sold-out 10k race.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Garioch 10k, and to celebrate Dandara is offering winners the chance to double their prize money if they break the course record as well as some special prizes for junior athletes.
Dandara’s managing director in Aberdeen Gavin Wyley, said: “It’s really encouraging to see so many young athletes taking part this year.
“We’ve introduced junior prizes to recognise the high standard of the youngest runners taking part in the Dandara 10K. We’ll be awarding a trophy to the fastest secondary-school team, the fastest secondary school male and female runners as well as spot prizes.”
Run Garioch is organised by Garioch Sports Trust, the registered charity formed in 1990 to manage the Garioch Sports Centre and encourage local residents to develop an interest in sporting activities and exercise.
All funds raised by Run Garioch support the Trust in providing sporting facilities and opportunities for people in and around Inverurie.
Funds from previous events have helped the construction of a world-class 3G-football pitch, renovations to the centre and the purchase of gym equipment.
