A leading north-east cancer charity has urged residents to lace up for a unique fundraising event which promises to be an action packed day for all the family.

CLAN Cancer Support is the official local charity of Mud Madness, an adventure running and walking race, which will be held at Lochter Activity Centre near Oldmeldrum on Sunday, October 30.

Now in its second year, Mud Madness is aimed at families and adventure runners who are keen to test themselves on two courses which are suitable for all abilities.

Mud Madness, open to those who are 17 years and older, is a 5k run over demanding natural obstacles and water-based challenges on wild, muddy terrain.

Junior Mud Madness, for children aged 11 years and older, is a 3k action-packed, fun course through mud, water and obstacles. Adults are welcome to enter and run alongside with their children if preferred.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted to once again be chosen as the local charity for Mud Madness which was very successful previously and attracted a big field for the inaugural event in 2015 and also in May of this year.

“The adventure run is a great opportunity to have some fun, get muddy and help raise money to help us continue our provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer across the north and north-east of Scotland.

“Fundraising events like this are crucial to CLAN and make a huge difference to the work the charity does. We hope to see lots of CLAN runners at Lochter Activity Centre and look forward to supporting them on the day.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.

Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Buckie, Elgin, Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.

Online registration for Mud Madness is £35 for adults and £17.50 for children, plus a booking fee. Halloween fancy dress is also encouraged on the day.

The cut off for online entries is Friday, October 28, however, cash entries will be accepted on the day if the event hasn’t sold out by that point.
