Multi award winning local butchers Davidsons Specialist Butchers in Inverurie is set to represent Scotland in the national final of the 2015 Butchers Q Guild BBQ Competition.

At the Scottish regional heat in Perth, Davidsons was chosen as regional steak category champion with its 40 day-plus dry-aged rib eye, matured in-house at what is Scotland’s first Himalayan salt block dry-aging chamber.

The business is run by Scottish Q Guild chairman John Davidson and has other shops in Aberdeen city centre and at Dobbies Garden World.

Davidsons hand-selects its meat from leading farmers across the UK, also sourcing pork from its own farm in Tarves, Aberdeenshire, run by John’s uncle Ian Davidson.

The shop is now getting fired up to take on its counterparts from across the UK in the final, when national winners in each of six BBQ product categories will emerge.

In addition, one of them will have the ultimate honour of being crowned overall supreme champion by the Q Guild, which represents 110 award-winning butchers from the Scottish Highlands down to the south coast.

Q Guild national chairman, Alnwick butcher Mark Turnbull said: “Entries have increased this year, such is the prestige of winning a Q Guild BBQ championship.“
