Ellon Community Council are seeking nominations for the six sections of the 2015 Ellon Garden Competition.

Now moving into its 22nd year, the competition attracted a record number of entries last year and the organisers hope to attract many new gardens this time.

The popular contest features a host of categories with a new judging award being introduced this summer.

As well as prizes for the best and runner-up front gardens in north, south, east, west and central Ellon, nominations are also being sought for senior citizens garden, hanging baskets and tubs, hidden gardens, vegetable garden/plot, community garden and best new garden.

An overall best garden in Ellon will also be awarded.

Members of the community council will be visiting all areas of the town to draw up shortlists for the judging panel over the next few days.

An awards ceremony will be held in September to present the prize-winners with their trophies and certificates.

Competition organiser Aileen Taylor said that despite the poor weather so far, early feedback from members indicated that the extremely high quality of entries in 2014 would be repeated.

She added: “We are looking forward to even more nominations this year.

“Initial indications from members suggest that last year’s very high standards have been maintained in all categories despite the challenging weather and we will be introducing a new award for the ‘judges selection’ this year.”

The closing date for nominations is Monday, August 3.
