All five Gordon candidates are due to share the Victoria Hall platform.

The five candidates contesting the Gordon constitutency at this year’s General Election on May 7, will share a platform in Ellon.

They will be taking part in a hustings organised by Ellon Community Council in the Victoria Hall on Friday evening (April 17).

A large audience is expected for the debate which will involve Liberal Democrat Christine Jardine, the SNP’s Alex Salmond, Colin Clark of the Conservatives, Labour’s Braden Davy and Emily Santos of UKIP.

The community council arranged a similar event during last year’s Referendum campaign at the same venue and it saw a capacity audience pack into the hall.

Commenting on the event, cmmunity council chairman Sandy McDougall said: “The Referendum event was very successful and we decided to organise another one for the general election.

“Our vice-chairman Peter Mackie has done a tremendous job and we are very fortunate to have attracted all five candidates. It is down to his efforts.”

Organisers hope that up to 240 people will attend the hustings, which will get under way at 7.30pm.

Mr McDougall added: “We are looking for a good debate with all the candidates having a say.

“At the end of the day we hope it will help people to make up their minds.

“Those intending to coming along should arrive at the Victoria Hall early if they want a seat. It is likely to be very busy.”

Entry to the hustings is free and all are welcome to go along and join in the debate.
