Popular Johnston Press advertising account manager Phyllis Mundie has bid farewell after 31 years in the newspaper business in the North-east.

Phyllis was given a grand send-off recently at the Buchan Observer offices in Peterhead as her colleagues presented her with a watch and a bouquet of flowers to mark her retirement.

An emotional Phyllis said she would sorely miss working with her colleagues at the company’s North-east titles and all her loyal customers, past and present.

Phyllis joined the Buchan Observer sales team in March, 1985, when the offices were based in Peterhead’s Chapel Street, and quickly worked her way up the ranks to the post of advertising manageress, building up an extensive list of clients in and around the Buchan area, and further afield.

As well as being a valued member of the Buchanie team, Phyllis is well-known in the local community and throughout the North-east.

She is an active member of Peterhead Rotary Club, a former chair of Peterhead Scottish Week and a current member of Light Up Peterhead.

She said: “I had the best years of the Buchanie, everyone remembers the queues and buzz on a Monday night when the papers came out and having to lock the door to keep the newsagents at bay until sales time.

“I’ve seen many changes over the years from being a family business to becoming part of Johnston Press.

“I really will miss everyone and would like to thank everyone for my lovely gifts.”
