It will be reunion day for former pupils and staff of Ellon Academy later this month with two separate events taking place.

A fundraising tea and tour of the school will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, March 21, while the class of ‘82 are organising a get-together in the Station Hotel in the evening.

The events are taking place as the countdown continues towards the move to the new community complex at Cromleybank in August.

The afternoon tea will be held between noon and 3pm at the Schoolhill campus .

Depute rector Kim Hall said they had received many requests from ex-pupils wanting to have a last tour of the school before the buildings are demolished.

She explained: “This gave us the idea to provide a fund-raising afternoon tea for all ex-pupils and staff who want to come together to meet up, share memories of the “good olde days” and have a tour round the school.

“We have had an excellent response. However, in order to be able to supervise all our guests and meet the council’s health and safety guidelines, we can only do tours in the main school building at our Schoolhill campus on this occasion.

“I know people are coming from all over the country and overseas which is fantastic. We are very proud of our school, our staff and all our pupils past and present.”

Tickets are £7 per person, £10 per couple and £5 children and concessions. They are available from the school office 01358 720715.

All proceeds will go towards school funds.

Meanwhile, those attending the afternoon get-together are expected to be joined by others in town to celebrate at the evening reunion.

It takes place in the Station Hotel at 7.30pm and is being organised by Glynis Gogolinski (formerly Thompson).

The idea came from a chance remark on social networking.

Glynis and school pal Karen Cooper Bonner have been contacting former schoolmates and hope to have around 60 on the night.

Glynis said: “Ellon Academy kindly changed the date of the open day to coincide with our reunion. We think it will be a great start to our trip down memory lane.

“Anyone from our year who isn’t sure if they are able to attend at the moment, can pay at the door on the night.”

Tickets for the reunion are £12.
