A rather unusual fundraiser will be held next month to raise money for JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity.

Tea at the Tap, a pop-up cafe, will be held at Mither Tap at the peak of Bennachie on Sunday, August 7.

The fundraiser will start from 11am onwards where hot and cold drinks will be served for a small donation along with a selection of snacks.

The event is being held in aid of JDRF, a charity that aims to cure type 1 diabetes.

Event organiser, Michelle Clarkson, said: “My niece Chloe Greig, aged 10, has type 1 diabetes and uses an insulin pump.

“She never complains and just gets on with it but life for type 1 children isnt easy.

“She has to carry a big heavy bag everywhere she goes containing all the equipment she needs just to stay alive.”

Michelle added: “Most of her food needs to be weighed and the carbohydrate content calculated, often meaning her dinner is cold by the time she eats it.

“She needs to decide exactly how much she will manage to eat before she starts, otherwise more calculations have to be made.”

Explaining how she came up with the idea for the fundraiser, Michelle said: “My favourite hobby is hillwalking and from personal experience I know that weather depending a hot or cold drink and snack at the top are always to be welcomed, especially if you dont have to carry them up!”
