Focus on Cummings 'a distraction' says Aberdeenshire Council leader
The Leader of Aberdeenshire Council has said that the current focus on Dominic Cummings is a “distraction” from the coronavirus pandemic.
Conservative Group leader, Councillor Jim Gifford, commented: “We’ve all heard what the Prime Minister and Dominic Cummings have said on this matter.
“The rules must be applied equally and adhered to by all. If Mr Cummings has broken the law, then his position would be untenable, and it is for the relevant authorities to investigate that and make a decision based on the facts they have
“Until that happens, it is a situation for them to judge and they have reached a conclusion. People may or may not agree with that decision but this is now a distraction and we must all focus on continuing to beat this dreadful pandemic.
“I want the Prime Minister to be able to concentrate on leading the whole country out of lockdown and I am glad that he continues to set out his plans.”
Cllr Gifford added: “Here in Scotland, our focus must be on tackling the ongoing crisis in our care homes, building a robust testing and tracking system, making sure that the Road Map that we have now seen is developed and made to work and, most importantly, re-building our economy as quickly as possible.
“In Aberdeenshire that is certainly our focus and especially on working through the Education Strategic Framework document that sets out a path for getting our schools re-opened in a safe and controlled manner in August.”
