A RECORD number of Ladyleys Riding Club members have qualified for the British Riding Clubs National Championships to be held at Lincoln Show Ground on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September.

Morven Gibb, Chair of Ladyleys RC expressed her delgiht. She said: “All the riders have worked very, very hard to achieve this success and I would like to say that we are all so thrilled that this has come to fruition. It is brilliant that so many of our members have qualified both through the teams and as indivisuals. I’d like to say a huge thank you for the support we’ve had from our trainers and their complete dedication and patience. We certainly couldn’t have done it without their help and guidance.”

Qualifying for the nationals requires a huge amount of dedication and hard work. Annalise Noble who has qualified two horses explained: “It takes a lot of hard work and time to qualify, train and maintain both your own and your horse’s level of fitness.”

With an estimated cost between £800 and £1000 per person to pay for lorry hire, fuel, accommodation, sustenance and entry fees, the members, who range from 15 years to 64 old, have been appealing to local business for sponsorship to help them fulfil the accolade of competing at national level.

With seniors competing on the Saturday and juniors on the Sunday, the team will set out on the 400-mile, ten-hour journey on the Thursday prior to the event to allow the horses to settle and rest before competition begins.

Ms Gibb added: “The logistics and the fundraising has been enormous. Getting the team down to Lincoln physically will run into thousands and co-ordinating the travel is quite an undertaking . Our Chef de Quipe, Julie Lee has been an absolute godsend.”

Mandy Sall, the most senior member who has qualified with her horse Domino, has written to local businesses explaining how teams from all areas of the United Kingdom are competing for the prestigious title of ‘Best Riding Club of Great Britain’.

Ladyleys Riding Club members have applied for grants to the Sports Council and are holding fundraisers to help to raise the necessary funds, but while some businesses have come forward with donations, further sponsorship would be much appreciated.

Mandy Sall said: “We would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us so far and who will sponsor us in the future.

Anyone who would like to sponsor this strong, talented and dedicated team should contact Mandy on (01358) 701692 or email
