MSPs and MPs in Scotland left their day jobs behind to volunteer at Barnardo’s shops as part of national ‘Make a Difference Day’, the UK’s biggest day of volunteering.
At Inverurie branch of Barnardos, Sir Malcolm Bruce rolled up his sleeves and took his place on the till hoping to help attract customers and new volunteers.
Sir Malcolm said: “I’m having a great time serving the customers. I’ve never worked behind a till before.
“It is quite surprising how well supported Barnardos is, with people who want to give things, the volunteers, and the customers who want to find a bargain but also have the satisfaction of supporting a good cause.”
Shop manager, Karen Green spoke of Sir Malcolm’s visit. She said: “It’s been absolutely lovely to have Sir Malcolm here.
“It’s good for our customers to see the local MPs who make a difference in our community. It creates an interest and awareness for Barnardos - it lets people know we are here and hopefully it will attract more customers and more donation to help the children.”
