Local Burn Lane butchers, Davidsons, took triple gold recently at the 2012 Q Guild Scottish Barbecue Competition held in Perth.
Competitors were provided with two gas barbecues and each entered three products, one of which had to be a steak. The maximum cooking time allowed was ten minutes.
The Gold Awards won by Davidsons were for a ‘Red Chilli Pork Skewer’, an ‘Ultimate Steak Burger’ and their ‘Jurassic Steak’, which also went on to win the Best Overall Steak Award.
Commenting after the event, John Davidson said: “The competition was great fun and we’re proud to have won not only three Gold Awards, but also the Best Overall Steak Award. As a Q Guild member, we regard ourselves as one of the UK’s finest butchers. And, as current holders of the UK Butchers Shop of the Year title, winning awards like these can only add to the credibility and recognition associated with being leaders in our field.”
The judges praised the steak in particular and said: “This steak is absolutely incredible, cooked to perfection, nicely seasoned, juicy and unbelievably tender.”
“This is made by a butcher who is pushing the boundaries in delivering what can only be described as the perfect steak.”
The Q Guild, which promotes traditional craft skills, was established in 1986.
