Motorists will benefit from free tyre safety checks and advice in a tyre awareness event at Tesco in Inverurie this week.
Checks will be carried out at the store in Harlaw Road on Tuesday by technicians from mobile tyre replacement and repair specialists Hometyre Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Hometyre’s Keith Body said: “We’ll be carrying out free no obligation checks, looking at tyre pressures, tyre condition and tread depths.
“We’re looking to educate motorists about the potential problems they should look out for.
“We’ll also be showing examples of dangerous worn-out or damaged tyres that shouldn’t be on the road, including illegal tyres that were sold to unsuspecting motorists as part-worn tyres.
He added: “Tyres are absolutely crucial to road safety and yet many people are unaware of the signs of wear, damage and aging. Motorists should check their tyres regularly for defects, such as splits, bulges and cracking, as well as tread depth. The legal mimimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre.
“Yet it is just as important for motorists to check the age of their tyres.
“The week and year of manufacture is stamped on the tyre wall and can be used to calculate when a tyre should be replaced.
“We’ll be showing motorists where this stamp is located.”
The tyre safety checks will be carried out in the car park of the Tesco store between 9am and 5pm.
