Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action’s Volunteer Centre was pleased to be invited to a gathering of Home-Start Garioch’s staff and volunteers late last year to present the organisation with their Volunteer Friendly Award, and also to present some of the volunteers with their Aberdeenshire Volunteer Awards.

A total of 12 Aberdeenshire organisations have now achieved this Award following an assessment of their practices in recruiting and retaining volunteers, and the way in which they recognise and reward their volunteers for their dedication and commitment. The Award is for a three year period.

Home-Start Garioch has been operating in Garioch and Formartine for 20 years, and the volunteers who received individual awards of a certificate and pin badge have accumulated 95 years of volunteering between them.

Home-Start Garioch’s services are now so well sought after, that they are currently seeking additional volunteers to help them provide support to new families with at least one child under the age of five. If you are interested in helping out, please contact their office on (01467) 624801 or email info@homestartgarioch.org.uk.

The Volunteer Friendly Award is a simple, user friendly quality standard designed to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at involving volunteers. Approximately 1.56 million people in Scotland – 38 per cent of the adult population – volunteer regularly, and volunteering contributes around £2.52 billion to the Scottish economy.
