LOCAL amateur side Monymusk AFC’s much-improved season culminated with the presentation of awards held in the Grant Arms Hotel in the village on Saturday.
It was a double triumph for midfielder Jamie Mackie who was voted Player of the Season both by the committee and his fellow team-mates. Runner-up for Players’ Player of the Season was goalkeeper Michael Fyffe.
Andrew Cruden was Top Goalscorer with Gordon Duthie the Most Improved Player and Ryan Sangster runner-up.
Monymusk’s final league game of the season on Saturday ended in defeat at the hands of BSFC at Balgownie.
With their eye firmly on next season Musk used the opportunity to mix things about and try players in unfamiliar positions.
One positive note from the game was the performance of young Liam Beaton in central midfield who was Man of the Match and scored Musk’s counter from a free kick. The Monymusk team was: Cruden, Moir, Doverty (Duthie), Forsyth (Eddie), Forshaw, Fyffe, Beaton, Aitken, A. Barron, Smart and Nicolson (Mackie).
Unused subs: L. Barron and Sangster.
The Monymusk players will now have a welcome break until the hard work starts again pre-season on Saturday, June 23. The club finished the season in seventh position in the league and are hoping this will be enough to see them playing Division Two football next season. The club is on the lookout for new players for the 2012-13 campaign, preferably with experience at amateur level or above. Those interested are asked to use the contact form on the club’s website at www.pitchero.com/clubs/monymuskfc.
The club are grateful to Inverurie Loco Works who have agreed to be the opposition and host a pre-season testimonial match for Monymusk’s long-serving player Graeme (Taz) Smart. The game will be at Harlaw Park, Inverurie, on Friday, July 6, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
