It’s great news for Locos fans as inspirational Club Captain Neil McLean has extended his contract through to the summer of 2017.
‘Nacho’ has had a wonderful season, enjoying global coverage following ‘that’ goal against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup.
Most recently Neil was the official Match Ambassador at the Scotland v Wales Schoolboy International, a role he carried out with distinction.
Commenting on the contract extension Co-Manager Scott Buchan said: “ As a management team we are absolutely delighted to secure Neil’s services for another season.
“Neil has been a vital part of our squad and players with the ability and experience that he possesses are like hens’ teeth.
“When you have them it’s imperative to try and keep them for as long as possible. Nacho had indicated earlier in the season that he may look to retire this summer and we have had various discussions throughout the season.
“I think what is imperative to point out that this is no sympathy vote due to Neil’s length of service at Locos.
“Neil still feels that he has something to offer the team on the pitch and we agree wholeheartedly.
“As Club Captain his influence rubs off positively on the younger players at the club which is just what we would expect of him.
“If we can add 2-3 more players to our squad with similar types of experience we feel we can look to kick on next season adding to the young squad that we already have”.
Skipper McLean commented “ Obviously delighted to commit to Inverurie Locos for another season in the Highland League, which will be my 13th campaign.
“The club have always been good to me and I wouldn’t want to play my football anywhere else.
“I had considered hanging the boots up at the end of the season to spend more time with my young family but after talking it through with my wife I’ve decided to give it another year.
“ I still feel I am contributing to the team and hopefully setting an example to our relatively young squad.
“The squad is progressing and I feel we can push on next season and continue to improve under the guidance of the managers and coaching staff.
“ I am still hungry for success with the club and look forward to challenging for trophies next season”.
