Colony Junior's McDonald sees his goal-bound effort hit the post during Saturday's 2-1 win over Buckie.

COLONY Park Juniors put in an excellent performance against Buckie Rovers, one of their main rivals in their quest for promotion from PMac Division Two, with Colony coming out on top winning the match by the odd goal in a three goal thriller.

Buckie started the livelier but Colony picked up the pace of the game and started to get their passing game going with McDonald and Dorrat producing chances.

With 11 minutes gone, Hart picked up a ball outside the box and passed through the Buckie defence to DORRAT whose excellent run and shot into the Buckie net gave Colony a one-nil lead.

Colony continued to be the team on top and further efforts by McDonald and Dorrat went close, but against the run of play Buckie Rovers equalised in 31 minutes when an off target shot hit McGuinness and the ball was deflected into the net to level the scores.

In the 39th minute, with Buckie on top at the time, DORRAT picked up a loose ball on the edge of the Buckie box and hit a shot which seemed to go through the Buckie keeper’s body and ended up in the net to restore Colony’s lead For the remainder of the half Colony were on top with efforts from McDonald, Turriff and Bonarius.

On 64 minutes Colony had an excellent chance to extend their lead when some good work by McDonald had put him just outside the six yard box with the Buckie defence all at sea . The young striker steered a carefully placed shot beyond the keeper but a slight bobble on the pitch took it off the goal post and the ball ran along the line and went clear with everyone expecting it to find the net.

Colony continued to be the team more likely to score and in 76 minutes Dorrat had a shot from close range which went over the bar and a few minutes later Adam Maitland hit the bar with a tremendous shot 12 yards out.

With the game moving towards its conclusion, a Buckie forward was brought down in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. The Buckie forward struck the ball but Duguid guessed correctly and dived to his left to parry the ball . The Buckie forward picked up the loose ball but once again Duguid brought off a tremendous save, as the ball dropped he managed to smother it to ensure Colony maintained their lead.

In time added on, Buckie continued to attack the Colony Park goal and a Buckie shot seemed bound for the net only for Turriff to make a great clearance off the line. This was the last action of a really exciting match.
