Colony Park Juniors won their third league match in a row against Bridge of Don Thistle by two goals to one in a hard fought match, with Colony scoring a late winner.

Colony Park got off to a great start when they were awarded a penalty for a handling offence by a Thistle defender. Jack STRACHAN scored from the spot with a well struck shot after three minutes.

However Colony’s lead was short-lived as Bridge of Don struck back two minutes later. Thistle were allowed too much room down the right and a low cross was clipped by Bradley DEANS into the Colony net to level the score.

Colony came close after 11 minutes when Strachan headed a Douglas cross over the bar. Bremner then had a shot over the bar. In 25 minutes Strachan pulled up injured with a hamstring injury and was immediately replaced by Adam Maitland.

Colony came close to adding to their lead in 31 minutes when Ross, Adam Maitland and Roddie combined well with the latter’s shot being turned for a corner by the Thistle keeper. Five minutes from the break Bridge of Don had a chance to take the lead but Sim produced an excellent save to keep the score level. At the interval honours were even in a match where there was little between the teams.

At the start of the second half Colony Park brought on Roddy Mess for Bobby Maitland. The first chance of the half fell to Colony when Bonarius had a shot wide of the post.

Colony were now pushing forward but the Bridge of Don defence was strong and opportunities to score were limited. Bonarius, Bremner and Douglas had shots on goal without success. In 78 minutes Douglas made a good run down the right and his cross found Adam MAITLAND who took the ball on his chest, allowed it to drop and on the volley hit a great shot into the Thistle net.

With Colony Park now leading by 2-1 Bridge of Don pushed forward to try and score an equaliser. Park made their final substitution bringing on Adam Morrison for Bremner. As hard as Bridge of Don tried to score, the Park defence stood strong with the whole back four producing excellent performances to ensure a Colony victory.

This was Colony Park’s first win over Bridge of Don Thistle, a team who defeated them three times last season. Colony Park now lead PMAC Group Div 1 East after three matches.
