Colony Juniors dump Sunnybank to stay on top

Colony Park Juniors continued their good start to the league season with 5-1 a win over Sunnybank in the PMAC Group Div 1 East.

The first chance of the match fell to Craig Brown who got on the end of a great cross only for his header to be well saved by the Sunnybank keeper. Almost immediately after Morrison had a chance but his shot was wide.

Sunnybank came into the game and Sim had to make a good save, with the match more even, Sunnybank forced a couple of corners which the Colony defence cleared.

In 21 minutes Colony Park were awarded a penalty when Roddie was brought down in the box. Adam Maitland took the spot kick but his shot was well saved by the 
Sunnybank keeper.

However a few minutes later Colony Park were awarded another penalty when Adam Maitland was tripped as he drove into the box. Calvin RODDIE stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to give Colony Park a well deserved one nil lead.

Park continued to push for a second goal and had chances for Adam Maitland and Roddie but they failed to convert. Having missed opportunities to put the game beyond the visitors , In 41 minutes Sunny bank were back in the match when , as a result of a defensive error, they equalized. This galvanised the Aberdeen side and they finished the first half on top forcing a couple of corners which the Colony defence managed to deal with but not without a goal line clearance from Roddie to keep the teams on even terms at the half time interval.

The early part of the second half was mainly confined to midfield with neither side breaking down the opposing defences. The match continued to be evenly balanced until the 66 minute when Adam MAITLAND out jumped the Bank defenders and with an excellent backward header found the corner of the net giving Colony Park a 2-1 advantage.

The goal lifted the Inverurie team and five minutes later the chasing of a lost cause by Morrison on the bye line, he found Craig BROWN in an excellent position in the six yard box who placed a well struck shot into the Sunnybank net to increase Colony’s lead.

Sunnybank responded by going down the other end and forcing a corner. Colony defended the corner and broke up field where Bonarius had a shot just over the bar. In 77 minutes with Sunnybank attacking, Bobby Maitland intercepted a pass just outside the Colony penalty area and he then hit a great pass to Graffan, on the right, who played it through to Adam Maitland whose pass found Adam MORRISON and he finished the best move of the match by drilling the ball in the Sunnybank net.

In 88 minutes Glen GRAFFAN added a fifth goal for Park when he slotted home a shot from close range. A minute later Roddie had a great run but he was unable to convert to increase Colony’s lead and this was the last action of the match.

This was another good win for Colony Park against a team who worked hard throughout and the match was even until Colony Park took the lead midway through the second half. Colony Park remain top of the league on goal difference from Buchanhaven Hearts.
