COLONY Park Juniors put in a strong team performance against a spirited Whitehills team on Saturday, with the visitors out to frustrate the home side by playing counter-attacking football from the off.
It was a match which started with 22 players and ended with 18 on the pitch following a spate of red cards in the second half. Two familiar faces were in the Whitehills line up with keeper McKinnon and midfielder Elrick having started the season at Colony but turning out for the Banff side.
Colony attacked from the start of the match and forced a couple of corners in the opening minutes. Crosbie had an attempt at goal in the eighth minute from a free kick 25 yards out but the ball just went past the post. Five minutes later Bonarius had a goal bound header cleared off the line. There followed a period of the game being played mainly in the middle of the park with few chances created by either side until the 28th minute when Adam Maitland found Matty McDONALD who struck the ball into the net to give Colony the lead.
A couple of minutes later Bonarius shot over the bar and Colony maintained their hold on the game up to half time but they were not able to add to the lead and they went in one up at the break.
From the start of the second half Colony Park drove forward looking to add to their lead. In 52 minutes following a move that was started by Duguid in the Colony goal and involved a number of the team, the ball was played into the Whitehills six yard box and a mix up between Whitehills defenders lead to Adam MAITLAND scoring from close range.
Four minutes later Steve HART drove into the Whitehills box and after beating a couple of defender he poked the ball into the corner of the net to put Colony three up.
In 57 minutes Gray from Whitehills received a second yellow and was dismissed leaving the Banff side with little chance of recovery. With Colony now on top it seemed only a matter of time before they increased their lead, Crosbie shot past the post before McDONALD added his second goal to give Colony a four nil lead in 67 minutes.
Strachan and McLeod were introduced for Roddie and Adam Maitland respectively, and the home side were playing excellent football and using the extra man to great advantage. Their task was made even simpler in 77 minutes when Hart dispossessed a Whitehills player and beat two men before being brought down from behind by Taylor who was shown a straight red. Hart was unable to carry on and was replaced by Donald.
Three minutes later McDONALD further increased Colony’s lead to five nil and also scored his first hat-trick for the club. With the match drifting to a conclusion there was further action for the referee as he showed a red card to another Whitehills player and also to Bonarius of Colony Park both for second bookable offences.
