With four league matches left, Colony Park Juniors produced an excellent performance to defeat Glentanar 4-1 away and move level on points at the top of the PMAC group Div 1 East.
Rivals Bridge Of Don Thistle have a goal difference advantage of one and there is the prospect of a thrilling finish.
From the start, Colony moved the ball well creating opportunities for Strachan who came close to opening the scoring in 12 minutes with the Glentanar keeper having to make a good save.
Glentanar had a chance moments later when their striker picked up the ball just outside the Colony box but his shot was wide.
In 14 minutes Adam Maitland put in a good cross which the Glentanar defence headed out for a corner. Bonarius took the corner and his cross found Roddy MESS unmarked in the box and he headed powerfully into the Glentanar net to give Colony Park the lead.
Park continued to the more offensive team and in 22 minutes they added to their lead when Adam Maitland took the ball off the Glentanar defender and passed to Jack STRACHAN who drove through on goal placing the ball beyond the Glens keeper.
A minute later Bonarius almost increased the lead but his shot was well blocked. Glentanar had a chance soon after but their header was just over the bar.
On 25 minutes Ross hit a great shot but his goalbound strike was well saved by the Glentanar keeper.
Colony Park continued to push for a third goal with Adam Maitland heading over the bar while Strachan had two shot which hit the side netting.
Ross, Davidson and Bobby Maitland combined with the move ending when Davidson’s header was saved by Glen’s keeper just before the 40 minute mark.
There were no further chances leading up to the interval with Colony Park going in two goals up at the break.
At the start of the second half Glentanar came more into the match forcing their first corner five minutes after the restart.
The Colony defence cleared the kick while moments later Adam Maitland had a shot saved at the end of a good move between the Maitland brothers and Strachan.
Colony forced a corner a couple of minutes before the hour mark but the Glens defence cleared and they broke forward to force a corner at the other end from which the ball broke to their striker who shot over the Colony bar.
In 66 minutes Barry Peden replaced Adam Maitland. In terms of play the match was now a much more even affair with both teams creating chances but neither side being able to capitalise on them until STRACHAN added a third for Colony Park.
The move began deep in the Colony defence with a clearance finding Ross around the halfway line and he broke forward before passing to Strachan who rounded a couple Glen’s defenders and the keeper to score his second of the match in 74 minutes.
Glentanar hit back a couple of minutes later when a cross from the right found a Glens player who headed well into the net to make the score 3-1 in favour of Colony Park.
Not long after Glentanar were awarded a penalty kick when Crosbie was adjudged to have fouled a Glentanar forward in the box.
The spot kick was missed leaving the score unchanged after 78 minutes. Ness replaced Davidson for Colony Park. The Inverurie side took full advantage of the penalty miss in the 80th minute when Walker lobbed an excellent pass to Bobby Maitland on the right and his cross was struck into the net by the onrushing Kevin BONARIUS.
Colony made their third substitution with Bremner replacing Ross. Through to the end of the match Park had the majority of possession with Strachan going close to scoring a third but his shot was just wide of the post.
The score remained 4-1 for Colony Park at the final whistle.
