COLONY Park Juniors were knocked out of the MTM Morrison Cup in the quarter final tie by Buchanhaven Hearts on Saturday, going down 3-0.
Neither team was producing much action in front of goal, in fact it took until the 25thminute for the first shot on target.
It also produced the opening goal for Buchanhaven Hearts when Dane BALLARD cleverly diverted a pass into the corner of the Colony Park net.
Colony Park almost hit back and from a corner in 27 minutes when a Brown header was cleared off the line and then Adam Maitland had a shot cleared off the line while Strachan also went close with a shot. In 32 minutes Pugh made a good run down the right and his cross was met by Bonarius whose shot was wide of the post.
Buchanhaven Hearts hit the bar in 43 minutes and the Colony defence cleared the rebound. Park continued to seek an equaliser before the interval forcing a couple of late first half corners. However the Buchanhaven Hearts defence could not be breeched and they maintained their one goal lead at break.
In the opening ten minutes of the second half Colony Park were the more offensive team. There were efforts by Pugh and Strachan which went close while a Brown shot, following a clever exchange of passes with Strachan, ended in the side netting.
Buchanhaven came back into the match as Colony found it hard to pierce their defence. In 71 minutes Buchanhaven Hearts scored a second goal. A ball from the left wing was swung into the Colony box eluding the defenders and it was touched in at the far post.
All of the Colony defenders protested that the player was offside. The referee consulted the assistant referee and he confirmed that the goal stood.
The Inverurie side continued to try and get back into the match and Bonarius brought a brilliant save from the Buchanhaven keeper while Strachan had a shot go just past the post from close range. Buchanhaven added a third goal in time added-on when a Duguid clearance was blocked by BALLARD and from the rebound he was able to place the ball in the net.
Overall Buchanhaven Hearts deserved their win, while Colony Park had more possession and forced more corners, Hearts defence was strong and all their players worked hard to close down the Colony midfield and forwards.
With former Turriff co-manager James Duthie now at the helm and almost a new team of players, Buchanahven Hearts are much stronger opponents than the side which lost 12-2 earlier in the season.
Next Saturday, February 1, Colony Park will get their chance to turn round this defeat when they meet Buchanhaven Hearts in PMAC Group Div 1East, kick off is at 2pm.
