THIS Saturday Colony Locos take on Glenburn Miners Welfare FC U19s in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup (the Transworld Soccer SYFA Challenge Cup round 6).
Having defeated local rivals Culter United and Westdyke 6-0 and 3-0 respectively away from home back in September, they met Kennoway United at home in the national rounds in October progressing 4-0.
November saw them overcome previous winners Harmony Row in a tight match with a 2-1 victory in Glasgow. That win saw them draw another top side, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, again away from home, who they overcame 4-2 to win a place in the quarter finals.
The Colony Locos currently sit top in the league with four wins out of four and are hoping to go one better than last year when the lost the league in a play-off at the end of last season . But for this weekend the league will take a back seat.
Manager Alan Calder said, “The Scottish Cup is a fantastic competition and one that will always mean a lot to me. Being part of the first Colony team to play in the final (but lose) is something I won’t forget.
“However the Scottish Cup is an added bonus to our season. Our main focus will continue to be the league and after coming so close last year we don’t intend to lose focus on that.
“This season some of our best away performances have come in the Scottish Cup. A hard fought victory against Harmony Row in Glasgow and in the following round against Kirkintilloch. We hope to replicate these performances at home this weekend.”
Alan added, “Our preparation has been hampered by the weather and the lack of competitive fixtures since Christmas is a bit of a worry. However the use of the 3G pitch has ensured we have trained and prepared as well as we can. We have started the season very well but there are no prizes for good starts.
“The boys have put themselves in a fantastic position this season and now the rest is up to them. Whatever the outcome on Saturday I’m sure the boys will do themselves and the club proud.”
The match kicks off this Saturday at 1pm on the 3G Surface at the Garioch Sports Centre.
