Colony Park Juniors won their second match against local rivals Newmachar United 2-0 in the Grill League cup section 7 on Saturday.

The first half was a close affair with few chances for either side.

Newmachar United came closest to opening the scoring in 13 minutes when Sim, the Colony keeper, brought off a great save to deny the visitors and he repeated the act in the 25th minute when Newmachar looked like scoring.

Colony seemed to get into the match after this and there were chances for Bremner, Roddie and Bonarius before Andi BREMNER latched on to a good pass and shot decisively into the Newmachar net to give Colony a one-nil lead in 36 minutes.

A minute later he almost added a second but Chapman saved after the ball rebounded to Strachan. In 41 minutes Keith had a shot well saved by Sim leaving Colony with a one goal lead at half-time.

At the start of the second half, Sim brought off another good save this time from McSween.

In 51 minutes Ross picked a long ball from Crosbie but his shot went just wide. Both sides subbed injured players with Graffan replacing Douglas for Colony and Durno replacing L Paterson for Newmachar.

Neither team was finding it easy to create openings with midfield dominating the proceedings. Adam Maitland replaced Bremner on 68 minutes while Taylor replaced Keith for Newmachar.

Colony had a series of corners which came to nothing. In 79 minutes a neat ball from Roddie found A Maitland but he shot over the bar.

With a few minutes remaining Craig ROSS increased Colony’s lead when he tapped in from close range after some good work from Adam Maitland.

A minute later Strachan almost added a third goal when he turned well and shot just wide of the post. In time added Turriff replaced Strachan. There was no more scoring leaving Colony Park winning by two goals to nil.

This win means Colony Park will now face Forres Thistle to decide who leads the group and progresses to the quarter final.
