Ellon United followed up their fine 4-2 home win in their league match against a strong Deveronside team with an 8-0 demolition of Lossiemouth United in their Grill League Cup section match at The Meadows on Saturday.
It gives them a fighting chance of progressing from the group to the knock out stages.
Three goals from Callum Tremaine plus singles from Dev Kennedy-Colbert, Grant Thomson, Shaun Robertson, Lenny Johnson and Michael Cramp did the damage although the home side might have been punished for a lack of ruthlessness at times, passing up a lot of chances which could have proved costly on another day.
Ellon opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Shaun Robertson laid the ball back to Chris Craib whose telling cross was flicked home by new signing Devin Kennedy-Colbert.
The home side added their second seven minutes later when Grant Thomson fed the ball through Lewis Macaulay who slipped it into the path of Callum Tremaine to open his account.
Ellon went three up in the 27th minute when Thomson headed home a cross from Mark Lawson then two minutes later Callum Tremaine grabbed his second with a neat chip to finish off a good cross from Lenny Johnson and send the home side in four up at the interval.
United added their fifth goal within four minutes of the restart when Shaun Robertson’s curling free kick beat everyone and landed in at the far post.
Ellon made their first subsitution in the 52nd minute with Michael Cramp coming on to take over from Lawson and taking up a defensive midfield role as the home side changed to three at the back. Four minutes later Tremaine added his third when he collected a throw in and wheeled to chip the ball into the top corner. Two minutes later Macaulay fed in Johnson to run on and fire home number seven.
The home side made a double change after sixty-two minutes with Neil Erskine replacing Tremaine and Aiden Greig coming on for Thomson. Ellon finished off the scoring in the 68th minute when Cramp forced the ball home from a corner. The closing stages fizzled out as United lost their momentum but their visitors were unable to gain any real advantage.
Ellon United: Buckley, Millsom, Craib, Thomson (Greig), Lawson (Cramp), Allsop, Johnson, Macaulay, Kennedy-Colbert, Tremaine (Erskine), Robertson.
Lossiemouth United: McKendrick, K.Harris, Cooper, Pope, Campbell, Watson, McKidd, Evans, Wilson, Stables, Ballinger, Steven, A.Harris, Wood, Ross.
Ellon move into unknown territory on Saturday with a trip to Nethy Bridge to face Junior newcomers Grantown FC on Grill League Cup duty in what may well be a decider as to who qualifies from the section. Grantown are understood to have assembled a strong squad bolstered by several former Highland League players.
