Formartine United came from behind to grab an important 2-1 home win over Wick Academy on Saturday.
The Caithness side held the lead at half-time but United stormed back with goals from Stuart Anderson and Graeme Rodger to take all three points.
Formartine were still without midfielder Neil McVitie and with both keepers suspended, Andy Shearer returned in goal.
Wick forced the early pressure but the home side were soon on the offensive and Michie fired in a 20-yarder which tested McCarthy.
Just after the half hour mark Rodger’s angled drive flew inches past the upright as United continued to press.
But it was the visitors who took the lead three minutes from the break with their first effort on target. Harrison finished off a move involving himself, Allan and Pickles by scoring from close range. A minute later the same player almost made it two with a fierce 30-yarder.
Formartine were on level terms three minutes into the second half. Anderson’s first attempt rebounded from a ruck of players but he made no mistake with his second, accurately finding the net.
The home side kept Wick on the back foot and they were reduced to counter-attacking and relying on McCarthy for a string of fine saves.
In a rare breakaway McKay was clear on goal but Shearer was off his line to make a brave diving save at the forward’s ffet.
The winner arrived 13 minutes from time from Rodger, who has been hugely influencial since his arrival from Deveronvale. He made a quick burst in from the right and cleverly clipped the ball past the outstretched hand of McCarthy.
Wick fought hard for an equaliser but United held out comfortably for vital win.
