Inverurie Locos recovered from their very tiring Aberdeenshire Cup encounter at Fraserburgh to maintain their 100 per cent League record by winning at one of the most difficult locations in the SHFL, Wick Academy, and winning well 6-3.
It was a much changed line up from the one that played at Bellslea, several experienced regulars making way for others and there was doubt as to whether it would go well when impressive youngster Jack Halliday opened the scoring for Wick in 17 minutes following a counter attack.
However it took only six minutes for returning prolific scorer Neil GAULD to level, controlling a ball from David Ross, spinning round and finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
It was 2-1 Locos within a minute, Andy HUNTER also finding the bottom corner from roughly the same range as his frontline colleague.
And it was three goals for the visitors in six minutes, Dean Donaldson cutting back from wide, Martin Bavidge seeing his shot hit the post and rebounding to young left back Ross STILL who stuck the ball away from eight yards.
The points were well and truly secured in 38 minutes when David ROSS’S close range tap in left the Scorries totally deflated at the interval.
However the homesters reduced the leeway to 2-4 in 50 minutes, Richard MacAdie’s cross converted by Gary Weir at the front post.
David ROSS got his second goal and Locos fifth in 62 minutes with a well controlled free kick and the lead was increased to four late on when Martin BAVIDGE netted from close range.
A high scoring game ended with Wick getting the last goal, Ross Allan brought down in the box and Sam Mackay sticking away the spot kick.
