THE defeat by Cove on Saturday was certainly deflating, but the game is done and dusted. Now the focus for Inverurie Locos is on getting back on the rails and ready for this Saturday’s League Cup Final with Keith at Princess Royal Park.
Scott Buchan said, “It’s a big week and enjoyable week to look ahead to. These are the same players who’ve got us to a Cup Final and played well for the past few weeks up to our game on Saturday . We have no doubts that the boys will be re-focussed and well up for Saturday’s game They will be well briefed. As co managers we have to get them prepared and motivated to get the trophy back to Harlaw We have to pick up the pieces, it makes you think a bit on team selection for Saturday, I’d say around 75 per cent of the team was known before the Cove game, now the players know every position is up for grabs”
Locos beat Cove 3-1 in the League Cup Final 2008 and Fraserburgh 2-1 after extra time a year later. Victory will be very sweet if it comes, Buchan and Coull chasing their first silverware as bosses just as Darren Still is doing for Keith.
Former Montrose midfield man John Maitland went to left back in the second half as the team was forced to try and claw back a four goal deficit on Saturday. He said, “We as a team were not at the races on Saturday, we had a crucial spell in the first half where they punished our mistakes and they all led to goals. It was a very disappointing position to be in going in at half time.
“It has to be a case of turning our attention to the Cup Final now. Short and sharp sessions on both training nights and we will be well up for turning it around. You have to look at positives. Our support means a lot to us, I have been told we have six buses going to Banff and we have to give them something to sing about at the end of the game”
