Colony Locos took on Huntly FC in the semi final of the Murray Cup at the Garioch Sports Centre.

Colony were looking to book themselves into their second final of the season and with a few injuries and a few players away Colony were restricted to 13 players and this caused a change of formation, switching to a very attacking 3-4-3.

As the half progressed it was clear the change of formation was causing a few issues for the home side and they couldn’t get there passing game going.

Huntly always looked dangerous on the break and it was to the credit to Colony’s defending that the away side failed to register an attempt on goal in the first 45.

The second half started again with Colony taking the game to the opposition.

But again they couldn’t find the breakthrough. Wood did well to create himself a chance but it came back off the post.

Colony then proceeded to have a run of corners and with the wind picking up these were causing the Huntly keeper more and more issues, and it finally brought the first goal. Lawrence swung in the corner which Huntly couldn’t get clear and WOOD made no mistake.

This helped Colony settle and they soon reverted to four at the back. After this the football returned and they managed to hold onto possession better.

The home side then opened Huntly up with a great passing move and Alex DUGUID made sure of their second final of the season, it 2-0.

Manager Alan Calder said, “It was a difficult game and a good result considering the players missing.

However with a Scottish Cup semi final looming the boys know we need to start stepping it up a gear.

It has just been announced that the semi final will take place at Harlaw Park on Sunday, April 6, and we are obviously delighted with that decision”
