Loons beat Locos thanks to bizzare goal

Loco Works headed to Station Park minus a few faces from last season and some new young signings on the bench against Forfar, with a number of other first-teamers still on holiday.

Locos started brightly and almost opened the scoring in the first few minutes when a mix up in the Loons defence saw two players head in to the path of Ross who’s shot from the 20 yard mark zipped past the keepers right hand post.

Minutes later Lister beat the offside trap and Scott Mathieson did enough to thwart his effort and Jeffrey was able to hook clear.

Locos defence was the busier of the two although Forfar created few real chances.

The home side wasted a free kick in good position while at the other end an excellent free kick from Neil Mclean was headed clear after Connor Rennie had intercepted a keepers clearance only to be pulled down 30 yards from goal.

The only goal of the match came in the 34th minute in bizarre circumstances.

A looping cross from the left evaded both defenders and attackers and looked to be going wide but it struck the bottom inside of the post and bounced back across goal to unmarked trialist Jordan Moore who had the simplest of tasks to steer the ball into the unguarded net from three yards out.

The second half saw the introduction of three teenagers for the Locos and all acquitted themselves well against second division opposition.

The introduction of young blood saw the Locos take the game to Forfar and although chances were few and far between the visitors posed a threat going forward. Colin Charlesworth was Locos most creative player going forward on the right wing and veteran captain Mclean showing a great appetite for the game and leading by example in a fairly sound performance in their first match of the season.
