MONYMUSK ended a run of four league defeats by getting back to winning ways, beating ARI Thistle 5-1 in this Division Three game at Deer Park.
Goals from Ryan Sangster (2), Andy Cruden from the penalty spot, Callum Nicolson and Tony Forshaw gave Musk three valuable points and got their promotion hopes back on track in what was a convincing victory against the struggling city side.
ARI started the match by firing just over the top straight from the kick-off. Monymusk responded by putting the ball in the back of the net at the other end after just two minutes, Cruden setting up SANGSTER who made no mistake with a good finish. Musk made it 2-0 eight minutes later. A mistake by the ARI central defender let SANGSTER in again and he made no mistake. ARI were trying to make a fight of it and a drive zinged wide of Fyffe’s goal.
The half ended with Cruden heading wide from a James Stewart cross before Graeme Smart had the ball in the net with a great finish but the referee had already blown his whistle to end the first half.
ARI started the second half briskly with two attempts on goal in the opening exchanges. Musk effectively secured the points with a third goal after just four minutes of play. A goal-bound effort was stopped by an ARI player with his hand. Amazingly he referee thought it was not deliberate, not even booking the player. CRUDEN himself despatched the spot kick into the net.
Musk made it 4-0 after 68 minutes when a great cross from Sangster found the head of NICOLSON and the central defender made no mistake.
FORSHAW, got the goal his play deserved with just three minutes remaining when he latched on to a through ball from Cruden, evaded a defender and lashed the ball into the net to complete the tally for his team.
ARI got a consolation goal with the last kick of the game when they were allowed to go straight up the field and the ball was prodded home despite the efforts of Fyffe.
