Whitehills end Colony Juniors perfect record
COLONY Park Juniors lost their 100 per cent league record on Saturday (September 8) when they lost by the odd goal, going down 3-2 to Whitehills.
The visitors applied pressure from the start and should have taken the lead after five minutes but Riddoch saved McLeod’s header just under the bar. Hart missed from 5 yards after 10 minutes when a goal looked the simple option. Colony played some excellent football but their finishing was poor to say the least. This set the pattern for the first half with Colony creating chance after chance but unable to find the net.
Two minutes into the second half Colony should have gone ahead when Roddie threaded a lovely pass through the home defence but once again the visitors passed up the chance. Riddoch in the Whitehills goal was outstanding and brought off a double save after 54 minutes to deny the visitors the lead. A minute later, McGuinness slipped and allowed Bruce a free run on goal to give Whitehills the lead. Five minutes later, Whitehills should have increased their lead but a fine save by Sim denied them.
Colony pressed for the equaliser but against the run of play, Whitehills increased their lead when Watt chanced his luck from 35 yards with a looping shot which beat Sim in the Colony goal. However, a minute later HART reduced their lead with a well taken goal. Colony pressed hard for the equaliser and after 77 minutes, across in from the left found GRAFFIN who slotted it past Riddoch. This was nothing less than the visitors deserved for all their pressure but just when a draw seemed on the cards, a complete mix up in the Colony defence allowed the ball to bounce over both the defence and Sim and trickle into the corner of the net.
This completed 90 minutes of frustration in a match that Colony should have won before half time.
