Garioch swimmers in action again in Inverness
Garioch swimmers were busy again, competing in the North District Age Group Championships in Inverness on November 30, and December 1.
The best swimmers in the North of Scotland aged 10-14 were on show during the week-end and competition for medals was stiff. Despite this, Shannon Crawford continued her great form, taking silver in the 100 backstroke, bronze in the 200 backstroke and making the final in the 200 IM. Christy Johnston again showed her prowess in the breaststroke by taking silver in the 200 and bronze in the 100. Like Shannon, she also made the final of the 200 IM. Both girls can look forward with great confidence to the National Short Course Championships at the Commonwealth Pool in a fortnight’s time.
There were great swims, too, from all the girls and Avery Collins, Heather McIntosh, Lauren and Sophie McPhee and Gemma Ogg should all feel proud of their achievements over an exhausting week-end’s swimming. For the boys, Cameron Crawford, Daniel McKenzie and Phelim and Daniel McNally all did well to swim at or in advance of their personal best times across a number of different disciplines. They will all have benefited from the experience of taking on the region’s best swimmers and acquitting themselves so well.
Rob McPhee and Sam Hull-Bailey were in charge at poolside and thanks are due to both for their skilful and enthusiastic handling of the swimmers. Thanks, too, to the parents who gave up their time to officiate. Donna McNally deserves special thanks for the pizza deliveries at the end of the final session – they were much enjoyed by all!
