Garioch Amateur Swimming Club member David Smith took part in the Scottish Aquathlon Championships on Saturday, (September 6).
Aquathlon is an event involving swimming (usually on open-water) and running and this year, as last, was held at Loch Lomond.
A 750m open-water swim in Loch Lomond was followed immediately by a 5k run around the grounds of Balloch Castle. This was the second time David had taken part in this event at this location.
The swim was a wetsuit compulsory 750m in the balmy waters of Loch Lomond and over 80 swimmers set off in the adult event. David had a much better swim than last year, exiting the water in a time approximately three minutes faster than the previous year.
The 5K run was through the picturesque grounds of Balloch Castle and David had a strong run finishing seventh across the line, preceded by a Scottish champion, a World Aquathlon fourth place finisher and Scottish Development Squad member, three Scottish Foundation Squad members and the top female Scottish Podium and Commonwealth Team member but was ahead of a few Scottish and GB vests.
David was awarded the bronze medal for being third Senior man and was happy with a time three minutes faster than last year. A first National Podium in Triathlon Scotland event for David.
