Bounty of nature at Lochter Fishery

These are some anglers who when they go fishing focus only on catching fish.

The vast majority however go out to enjoy the countryside to see and to hear nature at work at the same time as they indulge in their chosen sport.

At Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum anglers often come into the bothy to report seeing an osprey swoop into catch a nice fat trout or a kingfisher dive in , and in a twinkling emerge with a stickleback or a minnow . At this time there is a profusion of ducks of all kinds on the lochs, mallard, teal, golden eye, tufted to mention but a few all sharing autumns bounty with moorhens, coots, swans and herons.

Anglers who enjoyed a cast or two in the past few days have had a fine time. Bill F had seven all in the 3lb class and all on Blobs, while Brian Shand kept two for 7lb and released seven all on lures.

Buzzer worked for Brian Ross who had six and T Gray up from Motherwell and K McKinstray from Livingston had a dozen between them on WSW.

It was on the breezy side on Sunday but B Whyte from Mintlaw found some more sheltered corners to try his dries and attracted eight to the net.

G Ogilvie from Huntly fished the Muckle Troot and had seven good trout on damsels.
