ON Sunday, (November 24), Garioch Judo held its first Judo Festival inviting all the clubs that are part of Garioch Judo network of clubs.

The event had players from Insch, Mintlaw, Alford Oldmeldrum and Inverurie and in total there where 170 children in attendance throughout the day.

Garioch Sports Centre hosted the even and proved to be a great venue with plenty of space for the children, their parents and spectators. Head Coach Stuart McWatt praised some of his older youth squad players and family members who helped everything run smoothly during the day.

Stuart said, “From time to time we attend events elsewhere and the organisation seems lacking but I was delighted that everything today ran like clockwork thanks to those who were part of the organising group.

“The Venue here is perfect and the staff at the Sports Centre along with Aberdeenshire Active Schools were key in making the event a great success. Our more experienced players were giving the youngsters encouragement throughout the day and they were also treated to a technical demonstration by Ross Mark, who recently received his Black Belt, and the GB Number One Stuart McWatt showing some top level judo techniques.”

Stuart added, “I’d also like to thank Garioch Lions for their help on the day and some of the parents and friends of the judo club who had fundraising stalls which helped the club raise money towards a new mat area. The feedback from the day has been great and we look forward to another similar event next year.”
